A FAMILY has raised more than £1,000 for charity selling the possessions of their dad after losing him to cancer. Chris Taylor, 65, died on May 12 just three weeks after he was diagnosed with a form of liver cancer. His widow, Fran Taylor, of Martinstown, decided to sell his ‘lifetime of treasure’ and has raised thousands of pounds for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Mrs Taylor said: “Chris was a bit of a hoarder and his lock-up was jam-packed with stuff – there are all sorts in there. “I decided that I really don’t need all these things, so we had the sale to raise funds for Marie Curie. “We had a book stall, a cake stall, the WI laid on tea and coffees, it was real community event and a lot of people from the village were very supportive, which was great. “The weather was amazing, which put everyone in good spirits, and we raised more than £1,000 on the day. “We’ve done other fundraising and in total we’ve raised more than £3,000, which is brilliant.” She added: “Chris probably wouldn’t have liked the fact that his treasures were all sold but I’m sure he would have liked the result, which is that we were able to do some good and raise all that money. Hopefully the money will be spent on training Marie Curie nurses or paying for them, which will help other families like us in the future.” Mrs Taylor, 67, added: “Chris was diagnosed with hepatoma, a kind of liver cancer, three weeks before he died. “He wanted to die at home and with the help of the team he was able to do that. All the care and support from the NHS and the Marie Curie nurses was absolutely fantastic, really amazing.” Mr and Mrs Taylor were married for 43 years with two sons, Tom and Matthew, and three grandchildren.
