MORE than 20 organisations have joined forces in Dorset to orchestrate the smooth running of the sailing competition and associated events for the London 2012 Games.

Key contacts for the Weymouth and Portland 2012 Operations Group are bringing insight to their activities in the Dorset Echo and online at dorsetforyou.com/london2012.

Here’s Carolyn Black, producer of Exploratory Laboratory (ExLab).

BEING producer for Exploratory Laboratory (ExLab) means I never have a dull day.

Working with artists and scientists is a fascinating experience at the best of times – doing so in the extraordinary landscape of Dorset makes it very special indeed.

I’m not from Dorset, so for me it is a privilege to engage with this fantastic coastal region and its unique geological structures.

I’ve always had a penchant for non-arts partnership working, landscape and the digital – so when the opportunity arose for a role as producer for ExLab, there was no doubt I should apply for it.

The fact that for ExLab the geologists are using intriguing new technologies to investigate the landscape – and willingly share their knowledge and skills with the artists and the delivery team – is brilliant.

This unique working partnership between artists and scientists ensures that the newly commissioned artworks have great integrity and have the ability to provide new understandings of the region.

We have four newly commissioned artists exploring various areas along the Jurassic Coast and another investigating the geology between Sherborne and Weymouth.

Mat Chivers presents in Purbeck and Bournemouth; Simon Ryder on Portland Bill ; Simon Callery in Sherborne; Zachary Eastwood-Bloom at Durlston Country Park and Walford Mill Crafts; and Proboscis at Hive Beach, Burton Bradstock.

Audiences will discover artworks that engage them in the geology of the area in myriad ways. Expect to experience the landscape anew, finding new ways of understanding and interpreting this unique World Heritage Site.

We’re adding new things every week – field-trips which include walks, talks and minibus tours.
