It’s really great that Dorchester and Weymouth are now linked (well partially linked) by the cycle path.

I am saving a fortune in diesel every month commuting to work and maybe I might be getting fitter.

However I was wondering when the local council responsible for the section that runs the old Ridgeway road is planning on actually finishing it?

From Dorchester to the Ridgeway Bridge, us cyclists enjoy lovely smooth tarmac, but once you get to the other side the surface degrades into whatever was left once the road was closed.

A small strip of the very rough old Tarmac is bordered by what have now become two chalky trenches.

Woe betide anyone who drops a wheel into one of these gaping crevasses – it’s curtains for sure, especially given the gradient and speeds involved.

I am sure there are smoother mountain passes in the Himalayas.

The recent heavy rain continually washes the gravel and chalk out, deepening the holes further and spreading more puncture-inducing fragments of rock all across the Tarmac.

Mountain bike riders may see this as a mere inconvenience, but for road bikes it’s very dangerous. Any chance we might get this finished?

Or at the very least can someone send a road sweeper up there every now and again?
