TOWN councillors are seeking reassurances about the capacity of local sewage works and how they will cope with the growing population of Dorchester .
Members of the town council’s planning and environment committee expressed concerns after plans for an additional facility once the existing sewage works at St George’s Road reached capacity were not included in the district’s draft Local Plan. The committee received a letter from Wessex Water claiming that there was ‘adequate treatment capacity’ until at least 2025 but that did little to ease members’ concerns.
Coun Susie Hosford added: “It’s a worry because they are saying they have adequate treatment capacity until 2025 but the Local Plan goes beyond that.
“It’s a huge issue for Dorchester.”
