WINDSURFER Nick Dempsey ’s Olympic medal triumph has been recognised in Weymouth ... unofficially.
A mystery painter has turned a post box in Wyke Road silver to recognise his achievement coming second in the RS:X Men’s medal race in home waters on Tuesday.
Nick and his family live near to the post box.
It mimics the actions of the Royal Mail which has been painting some of its post boxes gold to celebrate Team GB gold medal winners. Boxes in the athletes’ hometowns are being transformed. Royal Mail said it was not responsible for painting the box in Wyke Road and said there would be an investigation.
A spokesman said the unofficial daubing could be described as ‘vandalism’.
