FOUR Weymouth schools have helped to set a new world record.
Pupils and staff from Chickerell primary school, St John’s Church of England primary school, Wyke Regis Church of England junior school and Wyke Regis infant school helped break the record for the most people signing and singing a song at the same time.
The event, called sign2sing, takes place every year and is organised by national charity SignHealth.
Chief executive of the charity, Steve Powell, said: “We organised the event to help raise awareness of deafness and the work we do.
“It was also a fundraiser for the charity through sponsorship from businesses and a voluntary donation from everyone taking part.”
The four schools raised more than £300 for the charity, and 1,146 people took part, helping to break the record, which was confirmed by Guinness World Records this month.
In total, 114,277 children and teachers took part from across the country.
Mr Powell added: “We’re extremely grateful, as all of the money raised will make a significant contribution to the work of the charity.”
