I am a 37-year-old family man with two children therefore I believe I am the target customer for Weymouth’s tourist trade.
I want my children to see the biggest and best the world has to offer: Sydney opera house, Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty.
Several months ago we all went to Abbotsbury ’s Sub-tropical Gardens for the Halloween Laser show.
It was fantastic, with hundreds of local children and families having a wonderful time playing in the lasers.
There were several comments made before Weymouth’s new lasers were installed saying “we don’t want a nightclub-style rave on the beach”.
I guess the artist who designed the display took these comments on-board and designed something quiet serene and tranquil.
When they were eventually turned on they gave a display that is serene and tranquil, now people are saying they are a bit boring. I guess it would be quite easy to change the display to something a bit more lively.
Having said that, I have seen many tourists taking photos of the lasers and stopping for an outside drink in one of the bars, waiting for them to come back on every 10 minutes.
My point is this, I find the fairy lights a bit dated and tacky and the lasers wow me every time my children and I see them.
