Dorset fun run challenge is rescheduled

First published in News

AFTER falling foul of the floods in July, the Charmouth Challenge and accompanying fun run have been rescheduled for Sunday, September 16.

The challenge will start at 11am and the fun run at 2pm. Organisers said that anybody who had been issued with a number for the July 7 races can transfer to the same race on September 16.

The fundraiser is being combined with another run called Highways and Skyways which takes in more hills and coastal scenery. All are in aid of Charmouth School. Runners can chose from an eight, 13 or 18-mile course.

The Charmouth Challenge is the most southerly fell race in England. On of the organisers Nick Bale said: “The eight-mile course goes through some of the finest coastal scenery in the South West.

“It includes an ascent of Golden Cap , the highest point on the south coast. He added: “A huge variety of people enter the challenge from the serious runners to the not so serious.

“It really is an event for all ages and abilities, something for everyone and a great day by the seaside.”

The Charmouth Challenge is organised by parents for the village primary school. It is the main fundraising event of the year and all the proceeds are donated to the school to help the children.

Last year the school upgraded much of its IT equipment as well as extending its library facility. Swimming lessons and school trips are also subsidised.

The run has been organised for the last 20 years and more than £55,000 has been raised in that time.

Anyone who would like to help or has ideas for extending the reach of the challenge should contact Mr Bale on 01297 578082 or organiser@charmouthchallenge.co.uk
