RESIDENTS in Purbeck have until November 5 to have their say on a shake-up of council tax benefits.

From April 2013, the Government will be ending national council tax benefit and councils will be replacing it with their own local schemes, called council tax support. The government is also giving 10 per cent less funding to councils.

Purbeck District Council is consulting on a choice of two schemes – one proposed scheme reduces council tax support to claimants by a percentage.

The second scheme would mean some people lose all of their benefit.

The changes would not affect protected groups, such as the elderly and most vulnerable. Information about the proposed schemes and a consultation questionnaire have been sent out to those benefit claimants in Purbeck who will be affected. The questionnaire and information can be found online at dorsetforyou. com/counciltaxsupport Alternatively, call 01929 557240 or email benefits@westwey.gov.uk to request a questionnaire before the closing date of November 5, 2012.
