You quote Councillor David Barrett as having said that the car parking in Queens Avenue, “in a conservation area” made him feel “sorrowful”.

He confuses himself; the problem relates to traffic difficulties, not the environment.

However, when the construction of the dreadful Charles Street development was decided upon, the same person defied local opinion about conservation, instead parroting the commercial assumptions of a dictatorial WDDC.

He supported the waste of ratepayers’ money on new council offices and a totally unnecessary library in the shape of a cruise ship with a bridge for its captain, Councillor Gould.

This will provide both he and Councillor Barrett a superb view of its impending collision with another huge vessel which is fast approaching from dead ahead, the ‘S.S Democracy’.

Perhaps Mr Barratt was coveting a new job on board serving drinks.

After all, that occupation led to one such waiter becoming Deputy Prime Minister.

Personally, I am hoping a vacancy occurs on the other ship as ‘Torpedo Launcher’.

Seriously, Councillor Barrett’s inconsistency raises important concerns about his judgement.

I hope that local people will remember this at their next opportunity to vote; always supposing of course that the cruise liner hasn’t been sunk by then with all hands.
