CHANGES to the appearance of a development of affordable homes in Weymouth have been approved.

The proposal to build 62 houses at Fairway Court in Westham is being delivered for Synergy Housing with design and building by the Leadbitter Group.

An existing block of sheltered flats and eight bungalows will be demolished and replaced with 44 new flats in two and three storey blocks, along with 18 new houses.

They will back on to Weymouth Golf Club and will replace an existing sheltered housing scheme.

Members of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council ’s planning and traffic committee unanimously approved the latest plans at a meeting on Wednesday.

The development is part of a £4.3million programme of new affordable homes being built in Dorset and supports Synergy’s overall objective of increasing the amount of affordable accommodation in this area.

Residents living in a mixture of 41 flats and bungalows were found new permanent accommodation locally by Synergy.

They were entitled to a Home Loss Payment and a contribution to their removal costs.
