Takeway plan to take over carpet shop is refused

A PLAN to convert a former carpet shop into a Chinese takeaway has been refused due to concerns for neighbouring residents.

The proposal to turn half of the old Weymouth Carpets store in Abbotsbury Road into a takeaway was recommended for approval in a report to Weymouth and Portland Borough Council .

Building work was underway to convert half of the ground floor of the store, which is next door to Daniels Fish and Chips, into two shop units, one of which was going to be the takeaway.

The scheme was refused by the planning and traffic committee due to concerns about noise, parking and pollution.

Councillor Christine James said there were already problems in the area, which is predominantly residential. She said: “There are lots of issues with rubbish, noise and pollution.

“There are cars parked right up to the junction – it’s quite dangerous.”

Very good point!

Councillor Christine James, you are such a joke!

these are hard times, and we shouldnt be stopping new businesses to start. especially where it involves an empty shop!

I have never eaten a chinese meal in the street!

Christine, please give up and find a something else to fil your time, cos you do more wrong for westham than you do right!

I would be far more concerned how a violent criminal can be a councillor? If the attack it had been the other way round I am sure they wouldn't still be one.

Are they afraid the local residents might put on too much weight?

On the other hand 'Chinese' take-aways have been in the news an awful lot recently regarding illegal workers, perhaps this refusal is not such a bad thing.
