THE Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Dorset and south west England tomorrow.

A spokesman said: “There is a risk that wet and windy weather will spread north from the Bay of Biscay to some southern areas of Britain.

“However there is a large amount of uncertainty at present such that it is possible that the rain may not reach our shores at all.

“The public should be aware of this risk and keep up to date with our forecasts as we approach the weekend.”

Some sporting fixtures are expected to be hit as the weather closes in.

The warning has led Dorset Wildlife Trust to postpone its annual Walk for Wildlife. The fundraiser along the cliff path of the Jurassic Coast, of six, 12 or 22 miles, has been called off.

Fiona Sansom, support development manager at the trust said: “The weather forecast is looking increasingly poor with heavy rain forecast all day on Sunday along the south coast, and the Met Office has this morning issued a severe weather warning for the area.

“Having set the routes in the last few days, which is predominantly along the coastal path, we are particularly concerned with the risks to our walkers if the paths are wet underfoot and some areas of the path have deteriorated even in the last few days.

“There would also be limited shelter for our walkers in these forecast adverse weather conditions. In addition, with the risk of slips and trips should anybody get injured extraction from large sections of the route would require coastguard support.”
