No it's not, you fool. I've seen a teenage car thief die on my front lawn after crashing into a lamp post, and the howls of his sister will live with me forever. Hanging people for petty crime? What level do you set it? Do posh people get an exclusion? Why am I bothering to argue?

Mrs Grumps says...

The problem when talking about petty crime is that it has different meanings for different people.

Obviously, for some, arson is petty crime - I don't see how that can be, as it is often dangerous, especially in a built-up area and always very costly.

I am sorry for both duckorange and
old-mo who have had such terrible experiences that have led each to completely different, but understandable attitudes.

However, I would be very wary of bringing back hanging, except perhaps for pre-meditated murder, even though there does seem to be scant justice in the courts these days. Stiffer penalties would help and Life sentences for murder should be Life, which would pave the way for greater penalties for other crimes.

If the Tories get in power and stay long enough they might bring back hanging - it must be cheaper than Life sentences!

By the way, I decided not to click on 'quote' because one above seems to have been somewhat mangled in the process! I'm not sure how that can have happened.
