WORKERS are soon to move into the £60million Weymouth Gateway site.

The 35-acre site has been a hive of activity recently, with parts of the office, supermarket, petrol station and hotel development taking shape.

Staff at New Look will receive the keys to their new three storey head office in Mercery Road at the end of the month.

They will begin decking it out with interiors, signage, desks and chairs.

On the week beginning November 5, staff will begin to move across to the new building – phase one will see around 190 workers moving across.

On the week beginning November 12, phase two will see 170 members of staff moving across. Bad weather has not held up the development, a New Look spokesman said.

She added: “We’re on schedule for our imminent move across the road and excited to see what the brand new office looks like.”

Building work on a new Sainsbury’s supermarket on the site is due to start soon. A spokesman for the grocery retailer said the planning application is soon due to go before Weymouth and Portland borough councillors.

She added: “We’ve submitted the reserve matters application for the design of the site. We’re hoping to get a committee date for planning in the next couple of weeks.

“Once we get to that point hopefully we’ll be able to start building soon.”

Budget hotel chain Premier Inn is opening a 60 bedroom hotel and a Beefeater Grill at the Weymouth Gateway site. The hotel and restaurant will create 65 jobs and is expected to open in February.

Anna-Maria Geare, president of the Weymouth and Portland Chamber of Commerce, said she was pleased so much progress had been made.

She said: “I think it’s nice that things are coming together and it’s lovely to see that inward investment being completed.”
