Portland’S Olympic silver medallist Stuart Bithell hailed a new Dorset Echo photographic book as a ‘nice memento’ of the home Games.

The 25-year-old, who claimed silver in the men’s 470 dinghy class with Luke Patience, said the borough ‘was a cool place’ to be this summer and he hoped this legacy would continue.

Stuart, of Weston, claimed a souvenir copy of the When the World came to Weymouth with images of him meeting the Duchess of Cambridge and joked ‘it brings back the memories of meeting my Kate’.

He described sailing in front of the crowd on the Nothe as ‘good fun’ and added: “Hopefully sailing will continue to attract spectators.

“We didn’t see much of the town during the Olympics but family and friends had a lot of good things to say.

“It turned into a cool little place for the summer and I hope it lasts.”

Dorset Echo editor Toby Granville said he was delighted Stuart had enjoyed the new publication.

He added: “Our photographers captured so many great shots of the Olympic and Paralympic festivities in Weymouth and Portland that we wanted to showcase the images and celebrate this unique summer in local history.”

The high-quality glossy publication costs £3.95.
