MILLIONS of viewers were glued to their TVs to find out who killed Danny Latimer, pictured above.

The death of the 11-year-old and the impact which grief, suspicion and a media furore have on a small town was the focus of the first series of Broadchurch.

Premiering on March 4, 2013, the show quickly grew in popularity with the final episode seeing more than 10 million people tuning in.

It was the highest-rated show launched in 2013 and became ITV’s most tweeted about show ever, with 470,000 tweets.

The search for Danny’s killer was undertaken by detectives Alec Hardy, played by David Tennant, and Olivia Coleman’s character, Ellie Miller.

The story led the audience on twists and turns, with few characters remaining above suspicion as the weeks progressed. But few could have seen the ending, where it was revealed that DS Ellie Miller’s own husband, Joe, was the killer.

In the trailer for Broadchurch 2, the audience has been promised the ‘same town, new secrets’.

Thousands of fans took to Twitter to help reveal the new trailer by tweeting #BroadchurchReturns earlier this month.

In the trailer Olivia Coleman’s character is heard asking: “Where were you both the night those two girls disappeared?”

Again the Jurassic coastline can be seen providing a dramatic backdrop and it looks like the new series will be as emotional as the first.

DI Alec Hardy is seen saying to Ellie Millar: “I can’t do it on my own.”

Whatever the future holds, you won’t want to miss the opening episode tonight.
