A STUDENT from a Dorchester college has been recognised at a celebration of the hospitality industry’s best students.

Danielle Moors from Kingston Maurward College was one of seven finalists nominated in the Institute of Hospitality’s southern branch achievement awards.

After being nominated by her college she attended a lavish awards ceremony at Lainston House Hotel near Winchester.

Danielle missed out on the top award, which went to Chloe Watkins from Bournemouth and Poole College, but judges and organisers expressed their admiration for all of the finalists put forward.

Chief executive of the Institute of Hospitality Peter Ducker said that he did not envy the job of the judges because the standard of finalists was so high.

Branch chair Alfredo Abad, who facilitated the evening, told the students: “You are all winners here and you must be congratulated.

“You are the future of the industry.”

Each of the seven finalists received a framed certificate and small glass trophy in recognition of their efforts.

The judging panel consisted of Antonio Lopez-Bustos, general manager of the Lainston House Hotel, senior lecturer in cruise tourism at Southampton Solent University Patsy Morgan and Jon Rook, director at Panache Consultancy, which specialises in hospitality management consultancy.
