A DORCHESTER club hosted a dinner to celebrate some very special anniversaries.

The Inner Wheel club of Dorchester will reach the 75th anniversary of receiving its charter this month, and members hosted a dinner to celebrate with other clubs.

The Rotary Club of Dorchester has achieved a landmark 90 years and now in its 30th year is the Past Rotary Club of Dorchester. Casterbridge Rotary Club is also now in its 25th year.

President Denise Addison welcomed president Ian Dominy of Dorchester Rotary and her husband Kenneth Addison who is president of Past Rotary. She congratulated the clubs on such outstanding achievements.

The evening was rounded off by an interesting talk and slide show by Brian Bates about local men whose names appear on the Cenotaph, who served in the First World War.

Club correspondent Brenda Lucas said reaching their 75th anniversary was a wonderful event. She said: “We are very proud and we have got some members that have been in it for years.”

Each year the clubs raise thousands of pounds for good causes, both locally and overseas.

On January 30, which is the actual 75th anniversary of the club getting its charter, the group will be holding a special lunch.
