WEYMOUTH'S Classical Recorded Music Society is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
The first meeting was held on Sunday, March 12 1944 and at the time the group was called the Weymouth and District Gramophone Society. A report was printed in the Dorset Echo a few days later.
Members met for a celebration at the Portland Heights Hotel on Saturday and were joined by borough mayor Ray Banham.
The society has met at many different venues over the years but can currently be found at the Acorns Day Centre, Grosvenor Road, Weymouth, generally on the second and and fourth Monday of the month from 7.30pm and welcomes new members.
