LULWORTH Coastguard Rescue Officer Sarah Welton, 65, has hung up her boots ‘to make way for younger and fitter colleagues’.
After a 32-year career at Kimmeridge and Lulworth, the Bere Regis resident said she has seen many changes, ‘but what has never changed is the commitment of my fellow team members to save lives’.
Sarah added: “I can’t say I will miss my pager going off in the middle of the night, but I will certainly miss the camaraderie and the opportu-nity to help people in trouble.
“There have been many occasions, when we have been training on the cliffs above Durdle Door on a balmy summer's evening, when I have had to pinch myself. I have been so lucky.”
Kevin Burt, station officer at Lulworth Coastguard, said: “During Sarah’s career she has been involved in numerous rescues, and received three Chief Coast-guard Commendation awards along with several other accolades.”
“Coastguard Rescue Person-nel with 30 years plus experience are few and far between.
The Senior Coastal Operations Officer Rob Sansom and all the team at Lulworth wish Sarah all the best in her retirement.
