A DORSET couple who first married in Romania renewed their wedding vows 47 years later at St Paul’s Cathedral.
Charles, 82, and Maria Davies, 70, from Portwey Close, Weymouth, renewed their vows at the world-famous London landmark.
They exchanged vows and had their rings blessed in a ceremony in front of friends, family and thousands of tourists.
The pair first married in Romania on December 22, 1965 and will celebrate their 47th anniversary later this year.
Mr Davies said: “We were married in Romania, I was working there and my wife is from there.”
The couple said that the St Paul’s ceremony was the first proper church and vows ceremony they had had.
Mr Davies put their long and happy marriage down to remaining independent and also doing things together.
He said: “We are both active. We both do things together and separately and it keeps life very interesting – we don’t get into a rut.
“We are both very independent.
“We are very happy.”
