POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a car failed to stop following a collision with a cyclist in Weymouth.

At around 3pm on Monday, May 25 a fail-to-stop collision took place between a BMW car and a cyclist on the bus stop side of the Morrison’s supermarket roundabout in Dorchester Road.

The victim, a 54-year-old from Weymouth suffered a bump to his head, bruising to the left side of his body and a broken thumb.

The driver of the vehicle only gave the victim a phone number before leaving the scene.

It is classed as a fail-to-stop as they did not provide their full details.

Police Constable Andy Thomson, of Weymouth police, said: “I am investigating how this man sustained his injuries and would appeal to anyone who may have seen the collision or the cyclist prior to the incident to please call me on 101.

"I understand a woman driving a red car stopped to assist the victim shortly after the incident and I would ask  her to get in contact.

"All calls will be treated in strict confidence."
