STUDENTS at Weymouth College were given advice at a recent safeguarding day.
The aim of the day, which is pictured on the right, was to promote key issues including e-safety, healthy relationships, domestic violence, sexual health and drugs misuse, to its current students.
Different agencies came to the college and set up stalls in the college to give advice to students and answer any questions they might have, including Dorset Police’s Safer Schools Community Team, Dorset County Council’s schools sexual health professional and the NHS’s Park Centre for Sexual Health.
Murray Shackleford, the College’s Safeguarding Coordinator said: “We were keen to promote awareness of the key issues around safeguarding with the hope that in keeping our students better informed, it helps to keep them safer.
“It was really encouraging to see lots of students attend the event and speak to some of the organisations. A key aim of the day was to make students aware of what support is available and how they can access it.”
The day was part of a wider Safeguarding Children Week that took place recently across Dorset, which focused on highlighting the key issues that affect young people and their families.
