STUDENTS at Damers First School in Dorchester proved they were all good sports when they took part in a specially organised fitness week.

Over the five days, the pupils had the opportunity to try out many new sports including taekwondo, kick boxing, skateboarding and trampolining, as well as pastimes such as swimming, aerobics, circus skills and dancing.

On the final day, the whole school walked to Maiden Castle hillfort on the outskirts of Dorchester and the eldest children climbed its steep ramparts to the top.

The week was about more than physical exercise, however, and the youngsters also enjoyed a trip to Paninis café in Dorchester, where staff made them fruit kebabs. They also made a selection of healthy snacks to fuel their walk to Maiden Castle.

The week was part of Damers First’s Healthy Schools Award scheme and was organised by Nikko Langtree.

She said: “The children had a wonderful time learning about keeping fit. They also had the opportunity to taste different food, which they really enjoyed, and experienced a wide range of fun things to do.

“I think one of the highlights for many of them was trying out some jazz dance with Dorchester Dance School, who were kind enough to come along.

“We also had a fabulous walk to Maiden Castle. Some of the parents came too and it was lovely to see the whole school walking down the road.”
