A WEYMOUTH church will be ‘off to war’ in aid of two good causes.

All Saints Church in Wyke Regis has joined forces with Wyke Regis Library to present the event which takes place from 2pm on Sunday, October 19.

Author Emma Drummond, who sometimes writes under the pen name Elizabeth Darrell, will be attending to read from her novels and there will be atmospheric music and sound effects.

Organiser Julia Moore said: “The extracts span campaigns from colonial outposts through to twentieth century world wars. They cover not only conflict on the battlefield, but also the impact on cities, towns, villages and those remaining at home. There is sadness and tragedy, but the overriding theme is courage and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.”

Emma spent her early childhood in Hong Kong where her father, who was in the British Army, was stationed. She served in the Women’s Royal Army Corps (WRAC).

She has written books including Beyond All Frontiers, Scarlet Shadows and Forget the Glory.

There will also be a display of items related to warfare and refreshments will be provided.

All are welcome and any profits from the retiring collection will be shared between All Saints’ Church and The Royal British legion.
