FARMERS are needed to give their view on this year’s harvest.
The annual NFU survey has been launched online and organisers hope to get a full picture of the wheat crop by mid-September and the other major crops by early October.
The information submitted will help to gauge the effect of the extreme weather on cereals and oilseeds.
NFU chief arable advisor Guy Gagen said: “Without the information provided by members it would have been simply impossible to generate an accurate estimate in the past as we rely on members’ input in order to maintain our accurate track record with harvest results.
“As with last year, the survey is online, making it easy for members to record the crucial information that goes into painting a picture of the 2013 harvest on a national scale.”
The survey, published a month before Defra’s official statistics, is the first source of data available on production levels.
