DETAILS are going out to householders about new wheelie-bin collections being introduced for their homes in west Dorset.

The Dorset Waste Partnership (DWP) is launching the new services for 41,000 properties in Purbeck as well as Dorchester and surrounding villages next March.

But it also wants to hear from householders if they are likely to have problems with the containers being used in the scheme.

The move comes as the Recycle for Dorset service has already been introduced to 94,000 households countywide.

Coun Hilary Cox, who is chairman of the Dorset Waste Partnership joint committee, said: “We have already rolled out the Recycle for Dorset service to half of Dorset. “The early results as expected have been excellent and show that residents are using the service to recycle more than ever before. “Working together with a single service, councils can drive down costs by sharing resources, recycling more and slashing the amount of landfill tax we pay to bury what is a valuable resource in the ground.

“So far, the majority of residents have responded very positively. “However, it is important that if you have any concerns about whether the standard containers will be suitable for you and your family, you take the opportunity to contact us before October 18.”

The DWP is writing to all households in Purbeck and part of West Dorset.

They include Dorchester, Broad-mayne, the Cerne and Piddle valleys, Charminster, Crossways, Osmington, Owermoigne, Puddletown and Tolpuddle.

The standard Recycle for Dorset service is: n A weekly collection of food waste using a 23-litre bin and a seven-litre kitchen caddy n A fortnightly collection of recycling using a 240-litre wheelie bin for plastic bottles, pots, tubs and trays, paper and cardboard, tins and cans and aerosols; residents’ existing recycling box for glass; and a small, reusable bag for batteries n A fortnightly collection of rubbish using a 140-litre wheelie bin.

The DWP wants to hear from anyone who thinks that the standard containers will not meet their household’s needs or if people cannot physically move their containers.

It also wants to hear from anyone who does not have a green recycling box.

A series of roadshows is also being held for people to raise any concerns.

People can also call 01305 221040 or email enquiries@dorsetwastepartner ship.gov.uk for more details.
