HORTICULTURE students from Kingston Maurward College have been selected to help construct the Badger Beer Garden at the forthcoming RHS Hampton Court Garden Show in London.

The four Level 3 Horticulture students – Joanna Hardwick, Niall Hawkins, Piers Closier and Joshua Stebbings – have been studying at the college since September. All are keen plants people and have shown flair and skill in designing and constructing their own show gardens as part of their course.

They will be working alongside international designers Sim Flemons and John Warland (Chelsea Flower Show medallists 2012) to construct a Dorset countryside-inspired garden in conjunction with Hall & Woodhouse Brewery.

Features include a meandering dry stone wall and a beer bottle pathway, mature trees and naturalistic planting.

A further seven students who have been studying at the College for the Royal Horticultural Society Practical Certificate at Kingston Maurward College, will be showcasing their horticultural skills as they move, position, plant and care for more than 2,000 herbaceous perennials, 1,000 wildflower plants and 80 square meters of meadow turf.

The students are: Jo Milan, Sue Wharton, Lynda Slattery, Sarah Harvey, Matt Dyer, Jane Rushworth and Jane Atkinson.

Royal Horticultural Society courses and other qualifications are available to study as daytime and evening courses at Kingston Maurward College at a range of levels to suit everyone from experts, enthusiasts and entrepreneurs to novice gardeners and more experienced horticulturists.

Budding garden designers can study for the Kingston Maurward Garden Design Diploma with Hampton Court medal winner Michelle Brown, who completes commissions across the UK with her own Dorset-based design practice.
