THE carnival season can’t be allowed to pass without some old photos and these lovely three were supplied by John Way of Weymouth.

They are of Portland Carnival and the oldest one, of a horse and cart with a crowd of people in fancy dress, was taken in Chiswell in 1924. John thinks his mother Ethel (nee Marshall) is on the flat.

John’s aunt Irene was the manageress of Portland Laundry and the two other photos are of the laundry float in later carnivals.

The one with the plane was taken in 1935, when John was five, and he is ‘piloting’ the plane. His father Eric stands in front of the truck, owned by John’s uncle Harold.

The third photo was taken in 1939 and shows John and his sister Mary standing at the rear of the float dressed in yachting clothes.

Thank you, John, for sharing these with us.
