LOOKING Back reader Frank Houghton, 95, is calling for some help from Looking Back readers.

He got in touch to find out more information about his mother’s side of the family and a friend who served alongside him in the Second World War.

Climo, the maiden name of Frank’s mother, can be traced back to at least two generations in Dorset.

Former prison officer Frank, who was born in The Grove, Dorchester, now lives in Wyke Regis.

He went to school in Colliton Street and his father came from the Birmingham area.

Frank’s mother worked as a maid at Wolfeton Manor at Charminster, which is now a care home.

His uncle, Reg Davis, was killed in the Great War.

Frank served in the Dorset Regiment and was in Dunkirk.

He also wondered whether Looking Back readers knew of an Eric Beck, with whom he was in the boys’ brigade.

He said: “I know that he used to be a barber at a shop at Glyde Path Road in Dorchester.

“I just wondered if anyone knew of him and how far back the name Climo goes in Dorset.”

Anyone who can help on either query can get in touch on the usual Looking Back number, 01305 830973, or write to Joanna Davis, Looking Back, Dorset Echo, Fleet House, Hampshire Road, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 9XD.
