Thanks to Looking Back reader Tracey Dias-Gunawardena for sharing this happy memory of Weymouth holidays with us.

She and her sister are photographed in a small fringed cart that gave rides to children on Weymouth promenade.

The cart was pulled by a small horse.

Tracey is eight at the time it was taken and her sister is four. Both she and her sister are wearing hats to protect them from the sun.

The picture brings back many memories of Tracey's late father, who sadly passed away in August last year.

Tracey said: "The photo was taken by my dad, who in his younger days was in the Navy and based at Portland.

"He and my mum lived in Ventnor Road in the early days of a very long marriage of 62 years.

"Later they moved back to their home town of Bicester in Oxfordshire, however the sea called them back every year from 1962 and we have holidayed together, mum, dad and all us kids, five altogether.

"Last year would have been their 50th year of holidaying in Weymouth, but sadly my dad died in August last year.

"But we still managed to come to our beloved Weymouth and Dorset and will continue to do so, it’s where we leave our shadows on the beach!"

Thanks Tracey, for sharing this wonderful memory with us.
