A PICTURE we featured of The Boy Bishop has stirred up some more memories this week.

Reader Belinda Groves sent the picture of a tableau of The Boy Bishop which featured Ronald Brookes as the Boy Bishop, and not Edward Brooks as was originally thought.

Miss Evelyn Kingman, from Dorchester said: "The Boy Bishop was not a Vicar, but Doctor Brooks, who lived latterly with his two sisters in Coburg Road, and I think his Christian name was Ronald.

"The Vicar was the Rev. Canon Edward Brooks who was the vicar of St George's Church, Fordington and was inducted on September 7 1956. He married my sister and her husband, Mr & Mrs H Wellstead, the next day on September 8, and this was his first wedding in his new ministry.

"I am the eldest daughter and my sister, Maureen, the youngest daughter of Mr William Thomas Kingman of Monmouth Road, and not of Mr Harold Kingman.

"I may have played for the wedding of Mr & Mrs Charles Deremaux as I was assistant organist in 1962 but I have a feeling the organist was Mr Bill Spray.

"I have been organist at St George's now for the last 50 years, and believe I have known all the previous vicars and organists going back to the Rev. Gilbert Jessop's time at St George's."
