THIS coming weekend will see Dorchester go carnival crazy as the county town celebrates with its annual summertime fiesta.
Over the years, as these photos show, Dorchester people have shown that they really know how to get into the carnival spirit.
Beryl Cushen of West Knighton sent in this double-page spread from the Dorset Echo of 1983 showing the carnival fun of that year – and it is interesting to see how very little has changed.
Fancy dress, crazy musicians and hours of family fun go into making the day one of the busiest in the town.
This year will be no exception and you can expect three days of fun, starting with the arrival of the funfair and the three-legged race on Thursday, live music in the Borough Gardens on Friday evening and a whole day of activities on Saturday, starting with stalls and live music in South Street and continuing with the procession at 6pm and more entertainment in the gardens.
