A NEW online web portal is set to benefit residents and businesses of the Cerne Valley.

The website will provide fast access to existing websites and local business that support the communities in the area including Cerne Abbas, Godmanstone and Minterne.

The new venture comes after the valley successfully became the first Dorset parish to complete a neighbourhood plan.

It will also build on the uniquely recognisable features of the Cerne Giant to attract visitors to experience the wonderful scenery, historic villages and places to shop, stay and eat.

Chairman of the local business group Anthony Garvey said: “This new venture provides a one-stop-information-shop for all residents whether they are looking for a local yoga class or a plumber.

"It will also promote the delightful tourist attractions of the Valley to a worldwide audience."

The development has been funded by the Cerne Valley Parish Council and the Cerne Abbas Village Hall and is expected to be self-funding through the business directory.

This initiative ties in well with the availability of superfast broadband, which is planned for introduction during 2015 for most parts of the Cerne Valley.
