GOLF fans helped raise over £1,000 at the first annual two club challenge at Wessex Gold Centre in Weymouth in aid of Julia's House.

The day was such a a great success that plans are already in the pipeline for another similar event.

The challenge was attended by almost 40 players who took part in a nine hole challenge using only two clubs and no putter, which proved to be more tricky than most thought with scores ranging from 34 to 70.

Non-golfers were also encouraged to take part in the day and a raffle was also held to further increase funds.

Julia's House needs over £4m a year to operate.

Andy Pedrick of Jurassic Walks was the only one to make the green in one over the deep water in front of the green.

Andy was also winner of the lowest score at 34, and nearest the pin.

Futurum Renewable Energy Systems Ltd sponsored the prize money for the day and a meal was held afterwards at The Balti House in Weymouth.

The weather was on their side as the sun shone all day making the event an even bigger success.

Mark Blunden, sales and marketing manager of Futurum Renewable Energy System who organised the event said: "We raised £645.59 on the day with the entry fees, raffle and nearest the pin.

"This was match funded to £1,291.18 by Barclays and we are really pleased with the event.

"We will most certainly run the event again next year and again in the meantime will do a similar event at Sturminster Marshall."
