A DORCHESTER business has given a boost to a local charity after a brilliant bake off.

The Dorchester Curiosity Centre enjoyed support from customers and sellers as it hosted a Great Dorset Vintage Bake Sale event to support Dorset charity Diverse Abilities.

Business owner Michelle Duncan, who handed over a cheque to Divers Abilities' corporate and community manager Fiona Hansford, said she was delighted to support the charity and thanked all those who got behind the event in Dorchester.

She said: "It was lovely to welcome Fiona from Diverse Abilities to the centre to collect the money we raised from the bake sale.

"We were so pleased to be able to hand over £270.77 from the sale of cakes baked by staff and customers and donations from traders and customers and from selling some of our own stock.

"We even received the donation of a chair from one of our regular customers, which we auctioned off to the highest bidder!"

Michelle said it was good to meet Fiona from the charity and find out about the work of Diverse Abilities.

She said: "Diverse Abilities do an amazing job to improve the quality of life of so many people and Fiona was able to tell me much more about the work that they do for children and adults.

"I am hoping to visit one of the centres soon to see how the money we raised has helped.'"

The Great Dorset Vintage Bake Sale saw cake sales held across the county to raise funds for Diverse Abilities as the disability charity celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Fiona from Diverse Abilities thanked the Curiosity Centre and all those who supported the event.

She said: "Thank you very much to Michelle, her colleagues at Dorset Curiosity Centre and her friends from Cowden Care Farm, who did a fantastic job with their Vintage Bake Sale.

"The money raised will go towards the support of adults and children with disabilities here in Dorset and their support has been invaluable."

So far the Great Dorset Vintage Bake Sale has raised more than £1,800 and money from sales are still coming in.
