HUNDREDS of women will be donning their pink t-shirts and descending on Kingston Maurward this weekend.

The college is hosting the Dorchester Race for Life on Sunday and a final call has gone out to women to join the fight against cancer by signing up for the event.

The deadline for entries is this Friday and organisers are giving one final push to encourage mums, daughters, grannies, sisters, friends and workmates to sign up for the 5km event.

The Dorchester Race for Life is part of series of events organised by Cancer Research UK, in partnership with Tesco, that raise millions of pounds every year to help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Event manager Maxine Bateman said that she was 'thrilled' by how many people had signed up so far, but she was still hoping for more as they look to beat last year's effort where 1,803 women took part and raised a total of £86,796 for Cancer Research UK's life-saving work.

She said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Dorchester.

"But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”

Maxine said taking part in Race for Life, alongside thousands of like minded women, is incredibly motivating and the atmosphere at all the events is full of emotion as participants wear signs on their backs declaring their reasons for taking part.

She said many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.

Maxine added: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast. You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like.

"Because these events are all about the feel-good factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”

Women can boost their contribution to Cancer Research UK’s work by doing a ‘wardrobe work-out’ before their event.

The charity is encouraging them to sort out and bag up hidden treasures such as quality clothes, books and accessories they no longer use and take them to the Donation Station at Race for Life.

Each bag of goods could help raise up to £25 for groundbreaking research.
