The West Stafford bypass has been re-opened to traffic.

The road was closed for several days and into this morning after floods caused by heavy rain.

Work is being carried out by the county council to improve the road, which has been hit by flooding numerous times in the past several years. The scheme has been temporarily postponed due to the flooding.

The ground around the road is still saturated but a county council spokesman said this morning that it's hoped work will be able to recommence on Monday.

The works began in October and are around a third complete.

Dorset Highways has finished building of a clay bank to retain flood water within neighbouring farmland. The next two stages of the work were to put in a filter fence to take out silt and to refurbish and improve all of the existing drainage.
