A RHUBARB and custard cocktail is being unveiled to celebrate a uniquely Dorset event.
Inspired by his favourite childhood puddings and his love for Dorset's “fantastic” food and drink, Bridport mixologist Lloyd Brown has come up with a unique cocktail recipe to be served at the forthcoming Dorset Knob Throwing Festival.
The summery cocktail will be rhubarb and custard cocktail, with a Dorset knob crumble topping.
He said: “As a child I loved rhubarb and custard, and I loved crumbles, and I thought it would be great fun to make a cocktail that combined these.
“The Dorset Knob Throwing Festival is a really quirky and eccentric event, where you can spend the day playing silly games and enjoying all the best things about Dorset, while raising money for a good cause.
“We wanted our cocktail to fit in with that spirit of childhood fun.”
The Dorset Knob Throwing Festival is being held at Kingston Maurward this year after it outgrow its previous home at Cattistock.
The event will be held on Sunday, April 30, starting at 10am and going on until 4pm. It features games such as Knob Throwing, Pin the Knob on the Cerne Giant, Knob or no Knob, Knob and spoon race and Putt the Knob, as well as craft stalls, live music, and stalls featuring a wide selection of Dorset food and drinks producers.
The event raises funds for the Cattistock community, which hosted the jovial games for many years until its move to Dorchester.
One of the many local stallholders is Liberty Fields, whose Porter's Perfection Vodka, made from the apples grown in their orchards, is the main ingredient in the Dorset Knob Cocktail.
Vicky Morland from the company said: “Lloyd is becoming famous in Dorset for creating quirky and delicious cocktails using local drinks and ingredients.
“The Dorset Knob cocktail is one of his most intriguing recipes - it's a grown-up version of pudding and we love the twist that our vodka gives it.”
The rhubarb and custard cocktail will be available exclusively at the Dorset Knob Throwing Festival at Kingston Maurward in the food and drink marquee.
