GET your running shoes on - it's the Dorchester Lions Fun Run.

Runners are getting ready to roar into action for the 35th Dorchester and District Lions Club Fun Run.

The popular community event is being held this weekend and will see hundreds of runners hitting the streets of the county town in the name of charity.

The event starts from the Dorchester Middle School in Coburg Road and those taking part will have choice of a competitive, timed 10k run or can take the relaxed option of the flat and fun 2km route.

More than 200 runners took part in the event last year and the Dorchester Lions are hoping to see even more participants this time round. The organisers think that the 10km timed run may prove to be a useful training session for entrants in the Dorchester Marathon later in the month and are encouraging more people to enter.

Registration on the day is from 9am. in the school sports hall with the 10km runners heading off at 10.25am. and the 2km starting five minutes later.

Half of the money people raise through sponsorship will go to the charity or good cause of their choice with the other 50 per cent going to Lions' local causes.

Among those planning to be present on the day are the current Mayor of Dorchester Tim Harries and Dorchester's 'Flying Nun' Sister Augustine who will be travelling from Falmouth for her 33rd Fun Run.

Runners can pick up entry forms in Dorchester at Gould's Gift Store in Dorchester, also the 1610 Sports Centre or the Tourist Information Desk during library opening hours.

The Fun Run will be taking place on Sunday, May 14.
