A jewellery shop in Dorchester is throwing its weight - and a bit of sparkle - behind a major fundraising appeal.

Staff at Jordans Jewellers, located on Princes Street, will be taking part in the Dorset County Hospital Charity Walk for Wards to help raise funds for it's Cancer Appeal.

The walk will be taking place in Weymouth on Sunday, July 2 and owner Sandy Jordan is encouraging all her staff and customers to get involved.

With her walking shoes at the ready, Sandy said: "We have been supporting the Cancer Appeal since last year when we contacted the charity to find out how we could help.

"This is such an important project and as a local company we wanted to be a part of it.”

Sandy and her colleague Toni will be walking the 5km route along Weymouth Seafront at the Walk for Wards event.

Toni added: "We are looking forward to the walk and will be bringing our dogs along. It’s such an easy things to do and we want to encourage others to do the same.”

Jordans Jewellers is also sponsoring a cup which will be given to the team which raises the most money from the walk. It has also funded coverage of the Cancer Appeal and the Walk for Wards event.

Head of fundraising at Dorset County Hospital Charity, Simon Pearson, said “Jordans have been supporting us from the very beginning of the campaign.

"Building strong relationships with the local community and with local businesses is very important to the success of major appeals like this one - we invite anyone who wants to get involved with this fantastic project to get in touch.”

The Cancer Appeal currently stands at nearly £1.1million with a target of £1.75million.

The appeal is funding a new outpatients department for all cancer patients at Dorset County Hospital. It will be built on top of the new radiotherapy unit currently under construction on the hospital site on Bridport Road.
