The community will be coming together this weekend to support a brave 10-year-old boy.

George Patterson, who has defied all expectations after being hit by meningitis when he was a baby, will be heading to The Great Field in Poundbury - one of his favourite places - on Sunday for a cricket match.

The big charity cricket match, between Crossways and Saggies, will be raising money for Meningitis Now and will be mum Naomi's final fundraiser before she takes a step back to spend time with her son.

Teams of fundraisers, under the banner of Team George, have been hosting and participating in numerous events in order to raise as much money as possible in George's name.

Since 2015 the teams have raised an overwhelming amount - more than £55,000.

Although nothing surgically can be done for George at the moment, doctors are keen to see what non-surgical treatments can be done.

The family travelled to Southampton yesterday and will also be going again on Friday to discuss George's options.

Naomi said: "It is a very big if, but if George gets to 15 and the bones are fully developed they will look into an operation. But that's a long way off and we will need to see what damage has been done while he's still growing.

"His consultant said not to go by numbers, just by George on a day-to-day basis.

"His hip has now been effected where the spine and hips have moved so we've been referred to the hip specialist."

George's scoliosis has got very severe meaning that it has twisted his chest and is putting pressure on his lungs. His body muscle is also getting weaker.

Naomi is hoping to use Sunday as a big thank you to all the people who have supported her and George and have fundraised over the past few years.

Apart from the cricket match, there will also be music, ice cream, a bouncy castle, food by The Pickled Pig, a cakes stalls and much more.

Everyone is welcome to attend, with the fun starting at 12pm.
