A community organisation has thanked the public for its kindness towards supporting deserving local causes.

Dorchester and District Lions Club has thanked residents and visitors for their generosity in supporting the club’s recent Christmas collection at Tesco supermarket in Dorchester.

A total of almost £450 was collected in just one day, and the money will enable the club to continue to support deserving causes and charities in the local area.

In the past, the Lions club has donated to an array of local charities including Mind support group, Dorchester Athletic Club, the Dorset County Hospital Cancer Appeal and more.

Andy Rose, of Dorchester and District Lions, said: “The Lions club is proud to be associated with Dorchester - year on year the public continues to give generously to help those in the community who may be disadvantaged, for whatever reason.

“The Lions Club of Dorchester and District thank you all and we wish you a peaceful, healthy and happy new year.”

The club is now preparing for its popular annual charity fun swim, taking place next year on February 3 and 4 at Dorchester Sports Centre.
