Youngsters took to centre stage to wow a packed audience with their singing.

The annual Dorchester Area Schools Partnership (DASP) Year 4 concerts have been going from strength to strength each year and this year was no different.

The concerts took place over two days in March at St Osmund's School in Dorchester and involved all 400 children with DASP.

Hanna Trevorrow, DASP music coordinator, visited all of the schools during January and February to deliver vocal workshops to all of the children in Year 4 throughout the whole DASP pyramid. During this time, all children learnt five songs.

“I visit each school four times”, said Mrs Trevorrow. “During this time, I teach the children five songs. I teach each school a different part to each song, which means that when we bring the children together to rehearse on the day of the concert, we have instant three-part harmony. There are not many eight and nine-year-olds who learn to sing in three-part harmony so I am very proud of all of them.

"Each school is also provided with resources which allows them to practise the songs when I am not there. The children put in a lot of hard work and the end result is always brilliant. It is so good that the local schools support music in this way and we are able to offer these opportunities to the children in our area. I very much hope this continues into the future.”

The theme for this year’s concert was ‘Peace and Unity’.

The songs that the children performed altogether were: a collection of war songs by Dona Nobis Pacem, One Voice by the Wailing Jennies, Let it Be by The Beatles and Ed Sheeran's What do I Know.

"In addition, each school prepared their own song to perform. The concerts were a huge success with packed out audiences on both evenings. Through generous donations, nearly £800 was raised which will be put towards the Year 4 concerts next year."
