ABANDONED animals will get much-needed love and care after kind-hearted shoppers did their bit for a Dorset charity.

Margaret Green Animal Rescue iscelebrating today after the success of their first ever Margaret Green Animal Relief Day.

Volunteers, members of the public, schools and businesses all got involved to fundraise on what would have been Margaret Green’s 100th birthday. The charity that she founded and ran for 35 years celebrates its 50th anniversary this year and to recognise this special year, the charity has organised several events including Margaret Green Animal Relief Day.

One of the highlights of the day were the Mother Ukers, who performed in Falklands Square outside the Dolphin Shopping Centre in Poole to entertain shoppers and passers-by.

The band, which supports Margaret Green Animal Rescue as their chosen charity, has made a special video of their song ‘Love Cats’ which you can view on their website motherukers.com – see if you can spot some rescue animals too as the band spent a day filming at the charity’s Church Knowle Centre earlier this month.

Other attractions on the day included a teddy tombola, pet photographs, foot massages and face painting.

Visitors to Pets at Home Dorchester, Poole and Bournemouth could also get involved and buy a cake for charity and pupils and parents at the Bournemouth Collegiate Preparatory School supported Margaret Green Day by holding a book sale after school.

Kate Cross, fundraising and marketing officer at Margaret Green, said “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all those who volunteered, fundraised or donated for our first ever Margaret Green Animal Relief Day. The day was a great success, we have raised £615.77 so far and we know there is more to come! If this has inspired you to organise your own fundraising event or activity, please get in touch and we can support you with a fundraising pack of your own.”

Margaret Green Animal Rescue rescues and rehomes hundreds of animals every month in Dorset and relies on public donations to fund its work.
