NEW office holders have been appointed for Purbeck District Council.

At the Council’s Annual Meeting on Thursday, Cllr Bill Trite was re-elected as Chairman for the third consecutive year.

The council’s vice chairman is Cllr Wendy Meaden, one of the newly elected district councillors for Lytchett Matravers.

Councillor Gary Suttle was re-appointed as leader of the council, with Cllr Barry Quinn appointed again as deputy leader and efficiencies spokesperson.

Chairman, Cllr Trite, said: “It's a privilege to have been re-elected to this position. I shall endeavour to continue with the inclusive and fair approach which I've tried to apply to the conduct of our business over the last couple of years”.

Spokespersons were appointed with special areas of responsibility and, for the first time, each will also have a deputy:

• Environment – Cllr Peter Webb (deputy: Cllr Graham Brown)

• Housing and Development – Cllr Mike Lovell (deputy: Cllr Hilary Goodinge)

• Social Issues – Cllr Bill Pipe (deputy: Cllr Timothy Morris)

• Economy and Infrastructure – Cllr Cherry Brooks (deputy: Cllr Caroline Finch)

Following District Council elections in May, the Conservatives hold 20 seats, the Liberal Democrats four and there is one Independent.
