PLAYWRIGHT Spencer Butler is bringing Edward Albee’s most searing play since Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? to Bridport Arts Centre.

It's the first performance of this play outside London or Broadway as it heads to Bridport on Sunday, February 5 at 6pm.

The Lady from Dubuque tells the story of two couples meet up for a social evening of drinking and discussion that ends in a game of Twenty Questions.

You know, the game that begins with someone asking ‘Who am I?’. But things are never that simple – or easy – in the plays of Edward Albee. And there is something all but one of those present is trying to avoid, or, at least, to come to terms with.

But this is only the beginning. When two strangers suddenly appear everyone is forced to confront the inevitable.

Director Laura Cockett said: “We are exited to see this third production by resident theatre company Take It As Read.

"Since Spencer initiated this project, Take It As Read have gave local audiences the chance to see work, performed live, that can not bee seen else where.

"This is an opportunity for theatre lovers not to be missed”
