A FUNNY, tender heart-felt, one woman show drawn from the experiences of local women is coming to Bridport tomorrow (10).

Mothers and Daughters – I’m Glad I Asked – will be at the Lyric Theatre from 8pm.

The play, by Dorset artist Michele O'Brien, originates from the experiences of Michele's life with her 91-year-old mother, Gena.

It is an honest and truthful reflection on what it means to have an older parent and the questions we need to ask, but rarely get the chance to. We often hear people say “If only I asked!” when a parent is no longer with us but Michele is determined to change that.

As women march en mass across the world in protest at the new Trump Presidency and we approach International Women’s Day on Wednesday 8th March, it has become an important time in history for women to make their voices heard, Dorset artist Michele began to ask her mother the answers to the questions she had always wanted to know but didn’t like to ask.

Michele then embarked on a yearlong project to encourage mothers and daughters to ask each other all the things they wanted to know before it was essentially too late. Accompanied by visual artist Denise Poote and photographer

Caroline Johnson, Michele worked with women and recorded the questions and answers to some comfortable and not so comfortable questions.

Michele’s research led her to create a new one women show exploring the relationship with her own mother which premiered at the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival in late 2016.

Doors open at 7pm with an exhibition of the research and work that took place in workshops in Dorset over the last year.

The following day there will be a free memory workshop for mothers and daughters at the Lyric.
