A PIN-UP calendar to raise money to help injured Royal Marines and their families is being fronted by a Weymouth woman.

Chelsea Page, 21, features in the 2015 calendar in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund and was chosen to be the cover star too.

The charity helps injured Royal Marines and their families if they fall on hard times and assists the families of those killed in action.

Chelsea said the cause was very close to her heart as her boyfriend is currently serving in the Royal Marines on deployment in the Middle East.

The calendar has ‘something for everyone,’ she said, adding: “It’s very tasteful – very pin-up.”

She said: “It’s for a very good cause. It needs all the funds it can get – it’s a very small charity.”

She got involved in the calendar through a social media support network on Facebook for girlfriends and wives of serving and veteran Royal Marines. They put a notice on asking for people to get involved and her boyfriend encouraged her to apply.

The network does a lot of fundraising for the Royal Marines all year round.

Chelsea said she had made a lot of close friends through the network on Facebook, who understood what she was going through when her boyfriend went on deployment.

She said: “There’s always someone to talk to. There’s always someone going through the same thing. Without it, it would be much harder.”

Chelsea is from a forces family, with both her mum and dad serving in the Royal Navy.

Jenny Robey, one of the organisers behind the Royal Marine Wives and Girlfriends Calendar 2015 and the RM WAGs Calendar Support Network, she said they were delighted to be working with photographer Nicola Grimshaw-Mitchell.

Since 2013 the support network collectively raised more than £36,000 through various events.

Jenny said: “We’re really proud that the calendar has grown into something so big where we get to help our fellow wives and girlfriends cope with the very unique situation of being the partner of a member of the armed forces. With the endorsement of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, we’re able to provide support in areas where they don’t necessarily have the resources.

“At times this means no more than lending a listening ear.”
